Peter Rowe - San Diego Union-Tribune Beer Columnist - Download

Peter Rowe discusses "record hops" prices. Clark Anthony & Ken Copper get excited until they realize he is not referring to what they can charge for spinning the hits at teen dance parties. As Peter reminds us frequently, hops is (are?) one of the main ingredients in beer. If hop prices were down, brewers would, we are quite certain, pass along the savings to us, their valued customers. But in the current market, you can imagine what's happening to the price of a six-pack - just in time for that annual beer-chugging event, Ground Hog Day.

Also, it's Super Bowl weekend. That leads the guys to a "heated" discussion about buffalo wings. That they were born in 1964, at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, is indisputable. But what was/is the original sauce? Should the wings actually have those little wingy-thingies attached? (Ken is pro-thingy, Clark is anti, and Peter is laconic.) And how hot should hot wings be?!? For men, buffalo wing heat-tolerance is a test of testosterone. To rate the relative hotness of various sauces, Mr. Wizard (Peter Rowe) explains the Scovile Scale. It measures the amount of capsaicin chemical pepper stuff in the wing sauce, but C&K lose interest and don't remember much after that. Cheers.

Gerry Braun - Union Tribune Columnist - Download

Ken is back from Texas. In perfect "Ken-logic", he returns wearing a cowboy hat purchased at a boot store. Gerry Braun joins the campfire conversation about the blasé way San Diegans are approaching the presidential primary, now just six days away. If this program were an old-time western, Gerry would wear a white cowboy hat. Ken's hat is sorta gray-brown. Clark points out that San Diegans are pretty laid back and apathetic about most things - city government, sports teams, the arts. Low clouds that don't clear get us steamed. And any amount of rain, sends us into "storm watch". But other than that, Clark suggests, we're unmoved. Clark is hatless. And unarmed. The hosts react with astonishment at the amount of email Gerry received following a recent tongue-in-cheek column discussing the unequivocal effectiveness of the beach booze ban…during the first dozen rain-soaked days of its implementation. Not one drunken riot on the sand! People! It's humor!! Lighten up!

Union Tribune Religion & Ethics Writer - Download

Dinah Smith joins Clark Anthony as Ken is away. Front page news today! The settlement between the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego and hundreds of men and women claiming they were sexually abused by priests and others was the result of complex legal dealings and months of negotiation. Today, for the first time, reporter Sandi Dolbee talks about what she learned from the two judges involved - one a bankruptcy judge, working in public to push the case forward; the other, an arbitrator, laboring privately, behind the scenes, endless hours, over many days, nights and weekends to encourage agreement among the parties involved. Learn much more about how the settlement came together. But find out why we will never know the full story.

Karla Peterson - Union-Tribune TV Critic - Download

Soncee Partida co-hosts
So howcome, if there were so many terrific talents trying out in San Diego for American Idol, howcome the ones we saw on the recent "audition" show were such duds? Karla Peterson explains!
Ken Copper is off today, so Clark Anthony and Soncee Partida also talk with Karla about HBO's In Treatment (wow!), Fox's Moment of Truth (aargh!) and the return of ABC's Lost (huh?). Also, Diane Keaton, Colin Farrell, Blair Underwood and Drew Carey! None of them actually appear on the program, but we sure can drop names, can't we?! (Okay. Drew Carrey might have been on. Nobody remembers.)

Clark & Copper talk among themselves - Download

Who are Clark Anthony and Ken Copper? Hah! Pegging them is like nailing Jello to a wall, or herding cats, or, some other difficult thing to do. (Their Hollywood writers are not on strike. They have none.)
Part Regis & Kelly, part MythBusters, part Lenny & Squiggy, part Bert & Ernie, part babbling political pundits - actually mostly Bert & Ernie. That's Clark & Copper! This is a fairly representative segment of their daily program, as far as they can recall. Sometimes they don't listen real close.

Lynn Marie - Jay Leno calls her "The Dixie Chick of the accordion!" - Download

Wait! Don't turn away at the mere mention of "accordion". You've never heard a fun sound like Lynn Marie and the Boxhounds. Rolling Stone Magazine described her as, "one soulful diva!" Clark & Copper caught up with her at a recording session in Nashville. She's a hoot! Hear a medley of her songs and stare at the computer speakers until you can see her wearing her "Party Dress". (Then compare your imagination to actual photos on her website, LynnMarie.net)

Ruben Navarette - Nationally-syndicated political columnist - Download

Ruben talks with Clark & Copper about his morning column in the U-T and across the nation. The subject is race in the presidential campaign. The column has already generated lots of email - positive and negative - from Republicans and Democrats. Also, Mitt Romney wins the Michigan Primary. Clark slips and refers to him as "George" - his father's name. But Ken and Ruben agree that perhaps it was the ghost of George nudging voters. Of all the candidates running for president, which one does Ruben feel has the ability to admit mistakes and adopt new strategies when the old are not working? His answer may surprise you.

Steve Games and Burke Smith - Real Estate Gurus - Download

The front page story in this morning's Union-Tribune Newspaper is headlined, "Median Home Price Plummets In County!" After the sub-prime mortgage debacle in 2007, and months of doom and gloom, wary home owners, buyers and sellers believe the worst about the housing market. But Steve Games and Burke Smith see a glass half full. They say it's a great time to buy something you can afford. And it's a good time to sell if you can move up to more home for your money. After running the world's 3rd largest residential real estate company, Steve is now a motivational speaker. But you'll figure that out real fast if you listen. His cohort, Burke, is convinced that real estate agents who use technology effectively will be most successful and most helpful for today's clients. Clark & Copper point out that, Burke was one of the guys behind iPayOne, which looked to streamline and undercut people like Steve and his company. How did they become partners? Listen to find out. (Hint: Steve did use the phrase, surrender and join me, "or I will crush you", as part of the process.

Peter Rowe - Union Tribune Writer & Beer editor - Download

Peter joins Clark & Copper for their usual mix of Friday cheer. It's guys' happy hour conversation, except without booze. That, and the fact that it's 11:00 in the morning seem to have no effect on the frivolity. However, this week Pete reports on top ranking for several local beers by the national publication, Beer Advocate. http://beeradvocate.com/

David Ross - "The Garden Doctor" at Walter Anderson Nursery - Download

As a regular contributor to the Clark & Copper Program, David Ross manages to be both wonderfully informative and considerably funnier than Clark or Ken. Our hosts worry that Dave may soon take over the studio and ask them to phone in from the nursery.

Prune without spreading plant disease…don't hang out beneath giant king palm trees…and be a man when confronting your giant bird of paradise - all topics that David Ross, "The Garden Doctor", addresses, as Clark & Copper listen in awe. We also discover that there is way too much suggestive language used in plant discussion. Or maybe it's just our sophomoric senses of humor.
